For the first time, a business round for tourism entrepreneurship will be held in Havana on September 28-29, 2022, convened by the capital’s government.
Local development projects, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, non-agricultural cooperatives, state enterprises, basic cooperative production units, self-employed workers and other local economic actors are invited to showcase their products and services. The event seeks to “identify potential and opportunities in the tourism sector,” according to the authorities.
Tourism institutions will also be present to identify potential contracts in areas such as food production, refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance, cleaning and hygiene, computer equipment maintenance, among others.
The business round will be held at the Marcelo Salado Recreational Complex Local Development Project (1st Avenue and 38th Street, Miramar, Playa), from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and registration will be open until September 20 through the e-mail address: wendy.probance@goblh.gob.cu.
The idea is also to contribute to the substitution of imports in the Cuban capital’s tourism industry and its productive chain, and to improve the quality of the services provided by the city’s hotel industry, through which about 50 percent of the international tourists arriving in Cuba enter the country.
There are 79 hotels of various categories in the city, with a little more than 13,000 rooms, but the authorities acknowledge that “tourism operations in Havana still have many gaps, and their possibilities and potential are not fully exploited.”
This first business round seeks to make tourism activity more efficient and diverse in the country’s main city, an industry which is gradually beginning to revive after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, and whose development plan until 2030 includes 36 new hotels and 13,839 rooms, among other investments.
