We are used to seeing superheroes in comics and movies but, around us, in the real world, there are miles of everyday heroes, there are miles of mothers with children struggling to overcome difficulties and feel integrated.
Bringing together in the same universe the most popular superheroes and those little everyday heroes, a project emerges with the only specification of generating confidence and self-esteem to all those who find more stones along the way than the rest.
Childhood may be the most tender and endearing stage of life but, also, it can be the cruelest stage if you are not lucky enough to be born like others, if you are pushed from a very young age to struggle with life’s difficulties.
Sarah Ivermee is the mother of a 4-year-old child who was diagnosed with profound deafness and hearing loss only a few months after birth, so she is very familiar with the difficulties of placing a child with cochlear implants and other hearing aids.
Deaf children frequently experience mockery or sense of marginalization because they are the only ones in their peer group with a hearing device.
Ivermme, when she learned that the daughter of a 9-year-old friend did not like to use her hearing aid because it made her feel different from her friends, offered to decorate the device with nail stickers to see if that, the little girl felt best.
Seeing how much enthusiasm the girl produced her idea, she decided to help more families with this problem. To do this, In 2014, Ivermee created Lugs, a company that sells custom kits to decorate hearing aids and cochlear implants; Creative designs range from colorful flowers to popular superheroes in the form of Minions and make children proud and excited to showcase their unique hearing aids.
Sarah confesses, “I am very excited to receive an email of thanks accompanied by images of children who use Lugs on their hearing devices and love them.” “It goes without saying that our son Freddie gets the most benefit from the business, since he can choose new designs every month, making all his listening friends at school very jealous.”
It is easy to transform the harsh reality of a child, you just have to have the superpower to generate an illusion and fantasy to make your life easier and let you know that he is the true hero.
