BarbarA's represents Cuba at Torino Fashion Week

Represented by BarbarA’s clothing brand, Cuba participated for the first time in the Torino Fashion Week, an event that facilitates meetings to find partners and contacts in the world of fashion, textile and creative industries. This was possible thanks to the bilateral project Avenida Italia, established between the two nations, according to a press release from the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC).

The venture, led by Deyni Terry, is a virtuous example through its idea of fashion with low environmental impact, and based on principles of sustainability and ethics, including the creation of clothing produced with recycled materials.

“Participating in Torino Fashion Week 2022 was extremely important for us. It allowed us to learn about the experiences from other parts of the world related to responsible fashion, a trend that has become vitally important in a world known for generating a significant number of natural resources,” the entrepreneur told Negolution.

At the event, the brand presented its “Entre manos” (Between Hands) collection, which celebrates handmade work and the deep-rooted relationship between Cuba and Africa.

For Deyni Terry, the fact that BarbarA’s was the first brand from the archipelago to participate in the event was a huge step forward, “because it will open the doors for other entrepreneurs in our country to showcase their work in this significant event.”

She also highlighted the value of the event on a date so close to the celebration of Afro-Latin, Afro-Caribbean and Diaspora Women’s Day. “Knowing that Afro-descendant designers also have our space in a sphere that has not always been completely inclusive is something to be grateful for,” she added.

Torino Fashion Week was organized by Unioncamere Piemonte in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Turin, as members of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) and in collaboration with EEN experts from the Group Textile Sector. These organizations are committed to bringing together European fashion and textile producers to enhance business opportunities and alliances by seeking partners for joint projects, exploring new markets, as well as sharing knowledge, ideas, innovation and inspiration.
