Cuban private and business sectors participate in HUB Cámara Santo Domingo 2022

Cuba and the Dominican Republic are preparing to expand cooperation between their entrepreneurs, through new businesses and foreign investment, including new actors in the Cuban economy.

The 38th Havana International Fair (FIHAV 2022), to be held from November 14 to 18, will offer a space to continue strengthening the collaboration between Cuban and Dominican businesspeople, but the first steps were taken in September, during the multisectoral exhibition HUB Cámara Santo Domingo 2022.

The Cuban delegation to this fifth edition of HUB was composed of 40 representatives of 25 state and non-state enterprises, including private SMEs from different sectors, such as agriculture, food, health, tourism, construction, communications and environment.

“This is the result of the transformations taking place in the Cuban economy, where new actors can also engage in foreign trade, promote exports and productive linkages,” Rubén Ramos Arrieta, vice president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, said at a press conference.

Ramos Arrieta stressed that the experiences of both Chambers of Commerce (Cuba and the Dominican Republic) will be used to identify and develop business opportunities for the companies of both nations, in order to strengthen and develop bilateral commercial activity and identify new partners. In this regard, the Cuban private sector has many interesting experiences to showcase.

This is the second visit of Cuban businesspeople to the Dominican Republic, in a context of economic reopening in which Cuba promotes micro, small and medium enterprises, which are demanding equipment, raw materials and advice.

According to local Dominican media, as part of the event small, medium and large Cuban enterprises had the opportunity to connect their businesses with the world and were offered the tools to position their goods and services in the global market.

In a little less than two months, when the 38th edition of the Havana International Fair opens its doors at the Expocuba fairgrounds, after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entrepreneurs from both countries will be able to continue exploring new business niches.

The organizers of FIHAV 2022 have already announced that the main attractions of the event include the presentation of the Business Intelligence Portal and Cuban exportable goods, as well as a business forum with Cubans residing abroad.
