Although what I am about to say may sound crazy, sometimes the hardest thing to do is to be yourself. Unfortunately, we live in a society where value judgments prevail and there are those who, for fear of what people will say, lose their authenticity, or simply never find it.
I want to approach this article from what we are today, distancing myself from the fundamental role that parents play in our education and the “abuse” of constant instructions that often distort or weaken the character of children. I want to start from what we are today, with all the insecurities we carry with us, with all the fears.
We entrepreneurs are not only responsible for ourselves, we are responsible for a project that we want to succeed, to be prosperous, and today, the best way to do that is to be authentic. That is why I bring you three tips that, by putting them into practice, will help you, in any situation, to be yourself.
1 Surround yourself with people you feel comfortable with
One of the keys to being authentic is to allow ourselves to put what we truly feel out there. It sounds easy, but our feelings can sometimes scare and confuse us a little. That’s why, in order to find ourselves, we need to be around people we don’t feel will judge us for the slightest dissonance with our way of seeing life. Try to start being yourself at all times with your closest circle and then, when you feel comfortable, expand the perimeter.
2 Meet your own expectations
Social pressure often forces us to do what we “should” rather than what we want. The problem is that I have never met anyone who is successful solely because of the opinions of others. If it were up to others, today no one would know of Madame C.J. Walker, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey or Walt Disney. Don’t let anyone mold you to their expectations, you came into this world to fulfill yours.
3 Honesty saves us all time.
This phrase always accompanies me, it reminds me that being honest with myself and with others is the best way to find myself, to be authentic. Being honest with others is hard at first, but it usually works like Newton’s third law: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” Those to whom we offer honesty, will give it back to us with all the pleasure in the world. But be careful, also note the phrase: “Honesty without tact is cruelty.”
