Rei Sushi Bar: Asian fusion food in Havana

The odds of doing business successfully are always more favorable when accompanied, rather than going it alone. Maikel Paz and Reinier Pérez were sure of that when they decided to team up, take advantage of their experiences and skills in what each of them knows best, and found Rei Sushi Bar.

Asian fusion food, reads the description on all online spaces where they are present, although the name itself already provides an idea of what they offer the palate.

Two friends, turned partners. One with a background in administration, operating processes, control systems and inventories, and the other offering his gastronomic knowledge of Asian food, as well as the desire to develop new flavors with the raw materials available in a tropical country, with a deep-rooted Creole menu. Two dreams, one venture.

This is one of the least known meal themes in Cuba, as founding partner, Maikel Paz, told us at Negolution. While there are other restaurants offering sushi, they mostly do so in a traditional way. Ours is somewhat westernized, he noted.

Rei Sushi Bar is another of the many ventures that emerged in the midst of the pandemic in Cuba, but which has managed to accommodate its demands and aspirations to the growing community of Asian food lovers.

Although it is still a business driven by word-of-mouth, in Maikel’s own words, it is possible to order meals from the restaurant both through its Instagram account (@reisushi_cuba) and on Whatsapp (+5358051006), with a home delivery service available throughout Havana. The menu is also available through the Mandao application. Variety and the contrast of flavors, with excellent presentation, are the hallmarks of a new option for Sushi and Asian food in the city.
