The “Ciudad en Bici” (City by Bike) project is back with the Seminar “The bicycle: Uses and recommendations for urban mobility,” which brings together the Cuban cycling community for the second time to discuss the future of this means of transportation.. Organized by the Patrimonio Comunidad y Medio Ambiente Civil Society organization, together with various national and international institutions and organizations, the event took place in the Multipurpose Hall of the Palacio del Segundo Cabo.
The debate revolved around neomobility, the experiences of the Ha’Bici bicycle system, as well as urban cycling and educational activities to achieve “the city of the future.”
Meanwhile, and as part of the Master Class 2022, urban infrastructure, public transport integration and road safety were the highlight of the meeting.
Likewise, the practices of cities such as Trinidad and Sancti Spíritus were recognized, since on this occasion representatives of the Network of Heritage Cities of Cuba participated, who have closely followed the work that Ciudad en Bici has been doing.
On the second day of the workshop, children were the protagonists, as the activities that have been held in recent months in daycare centers in vulnerable areas of Old Havana were recalled. Using balance bikes, without pedals, children can be taught skills related to balance and safety.
The event also included the presentation of the Bicycle Mobility Plan for the Historic Center of Havana and the participation of different projects and entrepreneurs committed to new and good practices.
Bicycle use not only restores humanity to the city, but is essential for the effective design of the city. The event marked another step or pedal stroke towards creating the city of the future.
