The first years of life are essential to the development of human beings; if we give our little ones didactic toys, we guarantee that they learn while playing.
This is one of the main philosophies of Tejidos Leyda, a store with unique, fun and educational products, created with crochet and aimed at making children happy. Although the store does not yet have a physical space, it can be found on social networks, where it has a significant following.
“It’s not just a business, it’s my world. It began by chance. I was still studying at university and I loved crocheting, so I used it to support myself economically. At the beginning I made everything I was asked to crochet – sweaters, hats, amigurumi, blankets,” founder, Yenifer Alvarez Mateo, explains.
What started out as a hobby, after a year became a brand with its own designs, 100% aimed at children. Among its main proposals are the BuBuS, commonly known as amigurumi. Also offered are comfort blankets, costumes, rattles, hats, puppets, montessori toys and fabric bags.
Tejidos Leyda’s creations are stuffed with hypo-allergenic cotton, since this tends to cause much less allergies than industrial toys, while also making them environmentally friendly products.
“Handmade toys have an added value, as they carry with them the soul of the artist. In the case of crochet, you will always have a unique piece in your hands, it is impossible to create something exactly the same. On the other hand, the softness of the fabric is more attractive to children than a plastic toy,” Yenifer notes.
The magic of seeing things created from yarn has also taught Yenifer that working for children may seem simple but it carries a lot of responsibility.
“Children have the ability to understand things and express themselves with great transparency. They don’t lie, if they don’t like something they will simply throw it away, but if we manage to make them fall in love, they will take their BuBu everywhere. That is why we also make sensory toys, because they help develop skills from an early age and this gives them the tools to face adult life in a better way.”
Tejidos Leyda also participates in various workshops and socio-cultural activities aimed at this sector of the population. Thinking about it, perhaps this venture is not only dedicated to creations for infants, as who doesn’t like knitted stuffed animals?
