SMEs around the world: Resilience and innovation to survive in times of pandemic

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The damage to their income and labor composition has been significant. But, at the same time, the crisis represented an opportunity for many SMEs to make the leap to digital transformation and move forward in modernizing their operations.

Ingenius: A path of challenges, expectations and illusions

Accustomed to extensive processes, overwhelming paperwork and endless red tape, bureaucracy was set to be one of the main fears for the first wave of self-employed workers (TCP) who decided to evolve into micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). However, according to Bernardo Romero González, founder and CEO of Ingenius, the process works.

Transforming the city with a pedal stroke

Changing concepts, preconceived ideas or those imposed over time, and breaking the mould is very difficult due to the intrinsic complexity of the human being. However, little by little, a local development project in Havana has managed to transform that post-special period notion that the bicycle is a symbol of decadence, economic problems, shortages or necessity, into an approach towards a better quality of life, a means to lessen environmental pollution, and an opportunity for greater socialization with the rescue of cycling mobility in the city.

Take responsibility, pay your taxes and then make demands

“Surely now you pay more taxes,” is the phrase I hear the most since the Cuban government, through Official Gazette No. 94, allowed the creation of new actors in the country’s economy. And yes, the phrase may be true, that now in the new economic scenario more taxes are paid. But is this so bad?
