Bars in Italy use noodles as sorbet to reduce the consumption of plastics

What we are going to say is nothing new: Italians love pasta. Truth: they love them, they idolize them, it is the cult of Italian cuisine par excellence. It is their most famous ingredient and food and, surprisingly, they have decided to use it for a purpose that is in solidarity with the environment.

Italian bars have chosen to replace straws or plastic straws with a creative and curious alternative: use noodles for drinks.

The company responsible for this noble gesture is Stroodles, an educational movement and a gateway to more sustainable behaviors and thoughts.

“Stroodles is not just a ghost company and there is a much broader image, since I feel I can leave a long-term impact by creating a ripple effect by triggering many small changes around the world, especially among people who are less aware of sustainability and their respective actions and behaviors,” company founder Maxim Gelmann told Bored Panda.

Gelmann has indicated that with more responsible attitudes towards caring for the environment they want to “attract and reach people less aware of the environment and show them how easy it is to make sustainable changes and bring them into their lives.”

Given the curiosity that has aroused this action, the London brand Stroodles has provided more information on the benefits of making use of the noodles as a substitute for the sorbet. Among the data to take into account, the pasta in the drink lasts up to an hour, although they estimate that in cold drinks they last longer. It is not recommended in hot drinks because of the risks of possible burns.

In addition, the noodles are tasteless and can be left in the compost pile when people have already finished using them.
